There is quite a high possibility that thirteenth month bonus could be followed by another benefits as holiday bonus. Federal Cognizant Agency for Fringe Benefit Rate & Indirect Cost:

To be eligible for Drexel’s health and welfare benefits, you must be employed in a benefits-eligible position on a regular University payroll and work at least 20 hours per week. The payment is intended to contribute to the additional expenses incurred on the occasion of Christmas and is intended to retain the employee in the future. The 13th salary, on the other hand, is the consideration of the employer for work performed by the employee on an ongoing basis. It represents a pro rata consideration earned for the work performed, which is only paid out at the end of a calendar year.

• Once an employee pays direct income tax and the 13th month’s salary plus bonus are paid in the same month, a higher overall rate of tax has to be payed.

College of Medicine faculty are automatically assigned to the highly compensated employee classification on hire or when their base salary reaches the annual threshold. The full-time employee rate captures all full-time, benefit eligible faculty and professional staff. Post-doctoral students hired as full-time professional staff are also included in the full-time employee rate. With the closure of the Drexel University Physician Practice Plan, Drexel University no longer requires the DUCOM highly compensated faculty rate.

Drexel’s Winter Break has been extended by two business days, making this Friday, Dec. 20, the last working day before the break begins. All professional staff members are strongly encouraged to submit their timesheets and leave reports before leaving for Winter Break.
